3 held with illegal arms

Prayagraj: Puramufti police arrested three persons and recovered an illegal country-made pistol along with live cartridges from their possession on Thursday.The accused—Arshad (39), Mohammad Sadan (28) and Mohammad Ashraf (28), all residents of Umri village under Puramufti police station limits—were apprehended near the Home Guard training centre at Bharetha following a tip-off. During checking, police recovered one .315 bore country-made pistol, one live cartridge of .315 bore and seven live cartridges of .12 bore from them. A case under the Arms Act was registered at Puramufti police station in Prayagraj Commissionerate. Officials said the trio has previous criminal records. Arshad was earlier booked in cases related to rioting, attempt to murder and other offences at Dhoomanganj and Airport police stations. Mohammad Sadan was named in cases under the Explosive Substances Act and a murder charge registered in 2024 at Puramufti police station. Mohammad Ashraf was previously booked under provisions of the Cow Slaughter Act and IPC sections in Varanasi commissionerate. TNN
