Kanpur: Police busted a gang of drug smugglers and arrested three accused, including a couple, after recovering narcotics worth Rs 30 lakh, cash of Rs 1.06 lakh and two digital weighing scales from their car. According to police, the smugglers had put a Government of India sticker on their white SUV to avoid police checking.DCP (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary said on Thursday that late Wednesday night, on information from a passerby, the Naubasta police surrounded a car parked in the dark near Virat Nagar cut on Kidwai Nagar Bypass Road. It was a white Scorpio with a Government of India sticker on it.
The police team surrounded the car and brought down three people, including a woman, from inside. They were identified as Tej Bahadur Sonkar alias Raj Bahadur alias Teetu, resident of W Block Keshav Nagar, his wife Asha, and auto driver Bheem Singh, resident of Mehban Singh Ka Purwa Nai Basti in Gujaini.The police team searched their car, in which 1,420 grams of ganja, 115 grams of charas and 20 grams of brown powder were found, along with two digital weighing scales and Rs 1. 06 lakh. Police said the cash was proceeds from narcotics sales.During interrogation, all three accused confessed to delivering narcotics on customers ‘demand. The couple said they delivered goods on demand using the car, while Bheem Singh used to deliver drug packets by auto and had been given an auto through which he sold narcotics on demand.The DCP announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for the police team. Police sent all the three accused to jail.s
