29-year-old shot in leg during pre-wedding marriage function

Surat: A history-sheeter with 34 serious offences registered against him allegedly shot a 29-year-old man in the leg during a marriage function in Limbayat on Thursday night.The incident occurred when both the victim and the accused arrived at their common friend’s residence to attend his son’s haldi ceremony, part of wedding celebrations scheduled for Friday. Limbayat police have arrested one person, while the main accused remains at large.According to police, complainant Ajay Girase’s wife delivered a baby on Feb 18. After she was discharged from hospital on Thursday evening, Girase dropped her and the newborn home and later went to his friend Yogesh Marwadi’s residence in Vishranti Park. Marwadi had invited him for his son’s pre-wedding function, and Girase attended along with his friend Kalpesh Katariya.Marwadi had also invited accused Jayesh Vagh alias Bavku Patil and Suraj Pandey alias Bhavander to the ceremony. Police said that when Girase arrived and tried to approach Marwadi, Vagh confronted him and objected to his presence at the function. Vagh allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Girase in the leg. He then threatened Katariya with the weapon before fleeing the spot along with Pandey.Girase was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors performed surgery to remove the bullet. Police reached both the scene of the crime and the hospital. Following the operation, Girase lodged a complaint. Pandey was arrested within hours, while Vagh continues to evade arrest.Police said Vagh is a history-sheeter with 34 cases registered against him, including charges of murder, extortion, theft and firing. His brother, Pavan, was murdered a few years ago. Investigators said Vagh suspected Girase of having links with the gang responsible for his brother’s killing and allegedly shot him over that suspicion during the function.Police added that Girase also has six cases registered against him in the past, including offences under the Prohibition Act, gambling, and criminal intimidation.
