28-year-old doctor dies as Chinese manjha slits his throat in Jaunpur | Varanasi News

Varanasi: Sharp Chinese manjha ( kitestring) claimed another life in Jaunpur district within a month. Medical practitioner, Dr Sameer Hashmi, 28, died after a string slit his throat in Panch Hatiya area of Jaunpur district on Wednesday.

On Dec 11, a school teacher was killed in a similar manner.Jaunpur CO (City) Goldy Gupta said Hashmi was a native of Kerakat. On Wednesday, he was returning to Kerakat from Jaunpur city and as he passing by a public school campus in Panch Hatiya area under Kotwali police station, his throat was slit by Chinese manjha.Locals and police rushed him to the district hospital, where he succumbed to injuries in the course of treatment, said the CO, adding that after receiving complaint from Hashmi’s family, a case of homicide was lodged and body was sent for post mortem.The CO said despite continuing drive against use of Chinese manjha and massive seizures from kite shops and vendors, such incidents were happening.He appealed to public to provide information about those selling it despite the ban or using it to fly kites.Locals said the manjha entangled around the doctor’s neck and caused a deep wound. Hashmi fell on the road, blood flowing profusely from the neck cut.On Dec 11, school teacher, Sandeep Tripathi (45) died afte his throat was slit by Chinese manjha as he was crossing Sadhbhavna Bridge on Gomati river in Jaunpur. He was returning home after dropping his daughter at her school when the incident occurred.In Varanasi too, Jitendra Maurya of Churamanpur Lohta, suffered grave injuries from Chinese manjha while travelling to Ramnagar on a motorcycle on Wednesday afternoon. He was crossing the Samneghat Bridge when the manjha caused deep cuts on both his eyelids and nose. Passersby rushed him to a hospital in Ramnagar, where after initial treatment doctors termed his condition stable.
