New Delhi: Over 40,000 seats across 230 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes will be available at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in the 2026–27 academic year, with online registrations set to begin on Feb 2. The state public university released its admission brochure on Wednesday, outlining seat intake, new programmes and revised admission pathways. The brochure was launched by education minister Ashish Sood.
Of the total seats, 37,419 are for undergraduate programmes, 5,316 for postgraduate courses and 22 for PhDs, with 85% reserved for Delhi candidates. The university has introduced 24 new courses, including a three-year LLB, and granted affiliation to nine more govt and private institutions. For international applicants, admissions will continue through supernumerary seats. The university currently hosts students from 32 countries—mainly from Africa and Saarc nations—many of whom come through ICCR scholarships. For the upcoming academic cycle, admissions will be carried out through a mix of national-level exams such as CUET, NEET and JEE, along with the university’s Common Entrance Test (CET). Officials expect between 1.5 lakh and 2 lakh applicants to sit for the CET, scheduled between April and May. Officials said the expanded programme basket and additional entry routes are aimed at reducing the number of vacant seats. The university admitted around 35,000 students last year, and its BTech intake crossed 10,000 for the first time, meeting the full sanctioned strength. The new academic offerings include Bachelor of Management Studies, BTech in Industrial Chemistry, BTech (Computer Science and Business Systems), BTech (AI and Data Science), MTech in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, BSc Clinical Psychology, Bachelor of Physiotherapy and a weekend MA Mass Communication programme. Teacher-training capacity will expand significantly through BA-BEd (Special and Inclusive Education) degrees that offer specialisations in autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, hearing and visual impairment, learning disability and multiple disabilities. Additional weekend programmes are also planned for working professionals. In the health sciences, the university is proposing MD courses in palliative medicine, radiation oncology and respiratory medicine, along with programmes in rehabilitation psychology, speech and language pathology and applied epidemiology, subject to statutory approvals. A key policy shift this year is that vacant BTech seats will be filled through CUET instead of relying solely on JEE, after repeated vacancies in previous years. The university has cleared affiliation for nine new institutions, including four govt hospitals—Swami Dayanand Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases and Guru Nanak Eye Centre—along with private nursing, management and healthcare colleges. These additions are expected to significantly boost seats in MD, MS, nursing and allied health courses.Other initiatives include allowing lateral entry in programmes with vacant seats, introducing an AI-based admission chatbot and expanding the dual-degree and student-exchange framework.
