New Delhi: A week after gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 75–90 lakh along with Rs 4.5 lakh in cash were burgled from a house in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh, a 22-year-old man was arrested, police said on Thursday.

The aunt of the accused had earlier been arrested in connection with the case.The case came to light when the resident of the house in Madhuban Enclave, a cable TV operator, told police that the valuables were stolen overnight after he had gone to attend a wedding with his family on Friday evening. When they returned on Saturday morning, they had reportedly found the iron grill of the window broken and the almirah lock open.

He had alleged that gold ornaments along with 3-4 kg silver articles and Rs 4.5 lakh had been stolen.“Local inquiry and CCTV analysis revealed that two persons with muffled faces entered the house at 03:17 am and left at 03:50 am after committing the burglary,” said DCP (west) Darade Sharad Bhaskar. Through intelligence, they were subsequently identified as Shankar (42) and his nephew, Manish (22). Upon raiding their residence, police found one Meenu (38), Shankar’s wife. She told police that the duo had returned early morning Saturday with the stolen valuables. Over 3 kg silver, 200 gm gold and Rs 80,499 were recovered from the house and Meenu was arrested. She further disclosed the whereabouts of Manish to police, who was then subsequently nabbed. Over 200 additional grams of gold were recovered from him. Police also found Meenu sells artificial jewellery door-to-door for a living. A total of gold and silver worth around Rs 75 lakh has been recovered along with Rs 80,000 cash from the accused, police said.
