Pune: The Baner Police on Sunday arrested Manish Kumar (21), a private security guard, from Prayagraj for plotting his own abduction and demanding Rs 2 lakh as ransom from his family in Chitrakoot. Police said he wanted money for personal use and plotted his own abduction. Kumar works as a security guard at a housing society in Baner.Senior inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant of Baner police told TOI, “On Feb 11, his elder brother approached the Baner police station with a complaint stating that unidentified people had abducted his brother on Feb 9. The abductors were demanding a ransom of Rs 2 lakh.”“Our team began investigating the case and collected CCTV footage from the area. The footage showed that the security guard was walking alone and boarded an autorickshaw. We tracked the autorickshaw’s movement to a housing society in Mhalunge,” Sawant said.“He stayed in the room of another security guard at a housing society for two days and made repeated calls to his family posing as his abductors. From Mhalunge, he travelled to Ahmedabad. After staying there for a couple of days, he travelled to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh,” he added.“Our team tracked him down in Prayagraj and brought him back to Pune. During questioning, he admitted that he needed money for personal use and therefore decided to stage his own abduction,” Sawant said.
