Kanpur: Two siblings died after allegedly consuming poison in Banda’s Naraini police station area on Monday evening, following a court verdict that ordered them to vacate their house and shop, their only source of income.Passersby spotted a man and a woman unconscious near the bridge, triggering panic in the area. Locals informed the Naraini police, who reached the spot and rushed both to the Naraini Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead.The deceased were identified as Anand Prakash alias Som, 30, and Chanchal Gupta, 34, the children of Prakash Chandra Gupta alias Mithai Lal.The deceased’s sister Shubha claimed that their uncle and aunt repeatedly harassed the family over an old land dispute and filed a false case against them. The case dragged on, and the final verdict by the district court 15 days ago went against the family, causing significant stress to both siblings.Shubha claimed her uncle and another relative taunted her siblings, telling them to “prove they’re their parents’ children by having poison”. She also alleged neighbours were threatening to falsely implicate them.According to Shubha, troubled by continuous mental harassment and threats, her siblings committed suicide. She demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against the culprits.Baberu Circle Officer (CO) Saurabh Singh said that a post-mortem examination has been conducted, and all aspects are being investigated thoroughly.
