2 professors, 6 students hurt in campus brawl

Kolkata: Two professors and six students were injured during a brawl between two student groups at the Science-Arts intersection in JU on Friday. Professors Rajyeswar Sinha and Lalit Madhav were injured while trying to mediate. No police case has been recorded but cops said they were keeping a watch on proceedings and collecting video footage. Madhav was discharged after treatment but Sinha sustained serious injuries. A student said, “Tensions between We the Independent (WTI) and SFI over ICC elections campaigning escalated on Friday when two groups confronted each other. The professors were assaulted by WTI students.” JU VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said, “It is shameful. I am looking into what action can be taken against the students who attacked the professors.” tnn
