Mohali: The police have registered FIRs in two separate rape cases in the district. However, no arrests have been made so far. One case was reported from Zirakpur police station area. According to police sources, Rohit Kumar of Pathankot allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman after promising to marry her. The victim, a resident of Panchkula in Haryana, stated in her complaint that she was in a relationship with the accused for a considerable period, during which he repeatedly assured her of marriage.However, when she later pressed him to formalise the relationship, he allegedly refused and cut off all contact. Acting on her complaint, police registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Zirakpur police station. Officials said efforts are underway to trace the accused, who is currently absconding.
The second case pertained to the Phase XI police station area in Mohali. In this incident, a 32-year-old woman has accused one Gurvinder Singh of sexually assaulting her. According to the complaint, the accused allegedly assaulted her, tore her clothes, and raped her. Based on her statement, a case was registered.tnn
