Mumbai: Around 2,700 alumni have contributed to IIT Bombay’s Project Evergreen, the ‘largest alumni-led student housing initiative in the country’, which will accommodate more than 1,100 students. The alumni donors, from the class of 1964 to the class of 2024, together raised around Rs 200 crore for building the facility with 848 rooms and 1,127 beds, covering 3.7 lakh sq ft.Showing the way for a national model for community-led, public-private collaboration in higher education, alumni volunteers, donors and 25+ corporates came together to build the facility, mentioned a statement issued by the institute. On Friday, the institute announced the completion and operationalisation of the project. It started as a conversation between a small group of alumni volunteers and Prof Subhasis Chaudhuri, former director of the institute. tnn
