Ahmedabad: A woman sent her 15-year-old daughter, a Class 10 student, to her brother’s home after the girl showed signs of phone addiction. Thinking that it would help her concentrate on her studies, the girl was sent for two months. The girl, however, reported sexual exploitation by both her maternal uncle and his son to her sister, after which the family approached a helpline and eventually Chandkheda police station.Abhayam 181 women helpline officials said that the woman is a single parent and has two daughters. The younger one will appear in the board exams this year. “For her well-being, she was sent to her maternal uncle’s residence about two months ago. Whenever called, the man told his sister that the girl was fine and was studying satisfactorily. When the girl returned home after two months, she told her sister that she was exploited sexually,” said a counsellor, adding that the girl was already suicidal.According to the girl’s version, the maternal uncle touched her inappropriately on the pretext of taking care of her, whereas her cousin exploited her multiple times when she was asleep. She was too afraid to confront or inform her mother.“The woman was shocked and told us that she would take action against her brother. We counselled the family members and also helped them approach Chandkheda police for further action,” said a counsellor.
