15 students, four teachers from Ahilyanagar district suffer injuries after bus on way to Shivneri Fort crashes into railings, turns on its side in Junnar taluka

Pune: As many as 15 students and four teachers from a Zilla Parishad school in Nevasa taluka in Ahilyanagar district suffered injuries after a state transport busthey were travelling in crashed into the railings along the Kalyan-Nagar highway and turned on its sidearound 7am on Thursday. The accident occurred near Dumbarwadi village in Junnar taluka, about 95km from Pune. The bus carrying the students and teachers was headedtowards Shivneri Fort for an educational tour, Pune Rural police said.The Otur police have registered a case of negligent driving against the bus driver.An officer from the Otur police said about 54 students and a few teachers from the ZP primary school in Pimpri Shahali village in Nevasa taluka were on their way to Shivneri Fort for an educational trip. They were travelling in a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus.“When the bus reached Dumbarwadi, the driver lost control of the wheel and crashed into the railings. Due to the impact, the bus turned on its side, and one of its tyres also burst,”the officer said.Residents from Dumbarwadi and Khamundi villages rushed to the spot and rescued the students and teachers who were stuck inside the bus. “They alerted the police and shifted the injured victims to nearby hospitals. Their injuries are not severe,” he said.The officer said the villagers also provided tea and breakfast to the bus occupants.The state transport bodyarranged another bus immediately from the Narayangaon depot and sent the remainingpeople to their village. MSRTC also provided immediate help of Rs 1,000 to the injured students and teachers.
