Udaipur: Acting against cyber criminals who misused technology to dupe citizens abroad, a joint team of the District Special Team and Gogunda police arrested 12 accused, including a young woman, during a late-night raid at New Mewar Kathiyawadi Hotel in Kumawaton ka Guda. Police seized four laptops, 14 mobile phones, two vehicles and other accessories allegedly used in the fraud.Police said the accused were operating under the name Sunset Adventure and had procured personal data of American citizens, including names, mobile numbers and addresses. Posing as employees of Apple, they allegedly informed victims about additional charges on purchased or proposed Apple products and promised refunds. The victims were then persuaded to transfer money in dollars on the pretext of processing refunds. Acting on a tip-off that 10–12 individuals were running a fraudulent call operation from the hotel, the team conducted a night raid and detained all suspects. The operation was supervised by Additional SP (HQ) Gopal Swaroop Mewar and DSP (Circle Girwa) Gopal Chandel. The joint team was led by SHO Gogunda Shyam Singh. Police identified Shahrukh Manshuri as the alleged kingpin. Investigators said the accused contacted foreign nationals through a TFN number using the Ibeam app and directed victims to click on links sent by them to extract payments. Further investigation is underway.
