Vadodara: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Wednesday conducted a drive against the use of children for begging and found 11 children begging along with their parents in the city. The drive was carried out jointly with the Anti Human Trafficking Cell of the city police and Childline. Two teams were formed and raids were conducted in areas including Racecourse, Alkapuri, Genda Circle, Fatehgunj, Harni, Karelibaug, Nizampura and the SSG Hospital vicinity.Officials said the drive largely focused on major crossroads and was the third such operation in recent weeks. An official said it was the first time in the city that a dedicated drive was launched to curb begging involving children. The children and their parents were informed about legal provisions related to using minors for begging. During the drive, authorities found that some families had set up temporary dwellings near a garden in Fatehgunj to stay close to begging spots, despite having homes in the Bajwa area. The police and govt authorities removed the encroachments.
