1.2L phone theft on Hwh Bridge: 1 held

Kolkata: The detective department of Kolkata Police on Sunday (Feb 8) arrested Nitai Sarkar (38) of Kulberia area from Duttapukur area of North 24 Parganas for allegedly snatching a costly phone worth Rs 1.2 lakh from a pedestrian on Howrah Bridge approach road last month. The victim, Manish Kumar Prasad (34), claimed that the bike-borne youth snatched the mobile phone while he was waiting for a vehicle on the approach road adjoining Howrah Bridge a little after midnight. Police registered a case into the matter on Jan 27 under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said the accused was held from Kulberia in the Bamangachi area close to his residence. Probe is on. tnn
